Vorobyevy gory features among top ecotrails

The Russpass Magazine issued a rating of marvellous places of virgin nature within the city, ranking Vorobyevy gory as one of the top.

Vorobyovy Gory is the largest part of the park: its area is ​​over 120 hectares. The place was popular as a vacation destination for Muscovites at the end of 19th and 20th centuries.

Vorobyovy Gory was granted the status of a nature reserve in 1998. Notably that the broadleaved forest grew here long before the founding of Moscow. Currently there are over 400 plant species, inlcluding 30 listed in the Moscow Red Book.

The fauna of Vorobyovy Gory includes more than 150 species of animals and birds. Yoy may easily meet chaffinch, greenfinch, corncrake, gray owl, goshawk, white-backed woodpecker, grosbeak, fieldfare, blue tit, robin, lark, woodcock, oriole, nightingale, jay and many others. Mammals include squirrels, hedgehogs, voles, bats, shrews and moles.

There are three ecotrails: "On the slopes of Vorobyovy Gory", "Andreevskie ponds" and "On the Vorobyovy Gory terraces". Each of them is over one and a half kilometers long. They are equipped with wooden walkways and stands with the descriptions of plants, animals and birds that live here.
